주한외국대사관에 KIVA 소개
  • KIVA's diplomatic volunteer Korean Supporters activities to help the foreign embassies in Korea.

We would like to cordially welcome ambassadors residing in Korea. KIVA is a civil corporation established for the purpose of public diplomacy activities approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
The basis for its activities is the 「Public Diplomacy Act」 and the 「Framework Act on International Development Cooperation」.

In the last for 80 years, the Republic of Korea has grown into one of the world's top 10 economic powers and stood in line as a member of the G7. So, KIVA wants to share with the world the tradition, culture, experience, and community spirit of Humanitarian Ideal(Honhik Ingan) that have served as the basis for Korea's rapid development.

Currently, KIVA intends to systematically and continuously carry out activities of diplomatic volunteer Korean Supporters that help economic and social development of countries around the world, especially developing countries,

We are making efforts with CEOs and local governments through KIVA. To do so, KIVA intends to establish field activity organizations in 2023. We are planning to establish 17 Diplomatic Volunteer Organizations(DVOs) at the regional government level and 17 committees for each area of expertise to carry out various activities to help the resident embassies.

Companies and experts participating as KIVA members will form a ‘Korean supporter relationship’ with one resident embassy and work as diplomatic volunteers. For each resident embassy, 20 Korean Supporters will be distributed nationwide to help. A total of 2,600 Korean Supporters are going to act for the 110 resident embassies.

Basic helper activities include
① guide service for guests requested by the resident embassy,
② cultural and tour guide service for participants of international events held in Korea,
③ cheer activities for international competitions held in Korea, and Global Youth Camp activities as supporting activities.

CEOs who are members of KIVA will have the opportunity to build personal connections worldwide through resident embassies and visitors in the process of serving as diplomatic volunteers. We expect that they will be willing to participate because they can easily build a very strong and reliable overseas manpower network at a low cost.

Through KIVA and its efforts, the resident ambassadors can build a good friendly relationship with local governments such as governors and mayors in Korea.
Local governments are going to plan and promote public diplomacy programs and ODA programs in accordance with the 「Public Diplomacy Act」 and the 「Framework Act on International Development Cooperation」.
Effective public diplomacy programs will be created if the resident embassy explains and cooperates with the characteristics of each country.

The Korean government is expected also actively to support KIVA's civil diplomatic volunteer activities. This is because KIVA complements the international support projects that the central government should do and the work of helping developing countries' economic and social development.

Most of the KIVA members will be CEOs of companies, but retired high-ranking government officials are also expected to participate. This is because they have know-hows how to effectively build relationships with the central government, local governments, and resident embassies.

KIVA, we will do our best to help nations around the world. Through KIVA's civilian diplomatic volunteer activities Korea is fully willing to fulfill its role in the international community.

Current state of KIVA

KIVA is currently recruiting members(diplomatic volunteers) nationwide. Once the members who will serve as Korean Supporters are selected for each country, we plan to hold a meeting between them and the embassy.
A significant number of Korean Supporters members are expected to be recruited nationwide by the end of 2024.

The Chairman of Organizing Committee, Park Seung-joo has considerable know-how in cheering and guiding services. Because he is the person who organized the Korean Supporters cheering squad from 15 countries (including Turkey) during the 2002 Korea World Cup. (At that time, he was the Director of the World Cup Support Bureau of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.)
